VeryDarkMan Breaks Silence After EFCC Arrest, Reveals Reason Behind Detention

Popular social media commentator, VeryDarkMan, has finally spoken out following his unexpected arrest and detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), shedding light on the real reason behind the controversial ordeal that stirred outrage across the country.

The outspoken online activist was taken into custody on Friday, May 2, shortly after visiting a GTBank branch in Abuja. News of his arrest quickly spread like wildfire, triggering a wave of condemnation from Nigerians on social media who decried the action as unjust and demanded his immediate release.

After several days in detention, he regained his freedom on Wednesday. His release was confirmed by prominent activist Omoyele Sowore and his legal representative, Deji Adeyanju.

In a candid video message that has since gone viral, VeryDarkMan addressed the circumstances of his arrest. According to him, the EFCC suspected him of being involved in money laundering activities — a charge he found both puzzling and ironic.

“They said I was laundering money,” he said with a mix of sarcasm and disbelief. “But how can you accuse someone who doesn’t even have money of laundering it? I’ve done a lot of charity work, and somehow that raised eyebrows. What they don’t realize is that I often go into debt just to help others.”

He went on to highlight the absurdity of the allegations, emphasizing that his philanthropic activities are fueled not by hidden wealth, but by sacrifice and commitment to social impact.

“Anyway, I’m out now — with my lawyer by my side, of course,” he added, hinting at the resilience that has made him a household name among his supporters.

VeryDarkMan’s experience has reignited conversations about the use of state power and the targeting of vocal critics, especially those who challenge the status quo through digital platforms. While he remains unshaken, many are calling for greater accountability and transparency in how anti-graft agencies operate.
