CAN Celebrates Election of Pope Leo XIV, Hails New Era of Hope and Unity in the Catholic Church

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Roman Catholic Church on the historic election of Pope Leo XIV, describing it as a monumental moment of renewal and inspiration for millions of faithful around the world.

In a statement issued on Friday, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, expressed profound joy and solidarity with the Catholic community, both in Nigeria and globally, as they welcome the new spiritual leader.

“The election of Pope Leo XIV is a remarkable milestone that symbolizes a renewed vision and deep hope for the Catholic Church. It is an occasion that resonates far beyond Vatican walls, touching the hearts of Christians across all denominations,” Archbishop Okoh stated.

He further emphasized CAN’s confidence in Pope Leo XIV’s ability to uphold the values of peace, justice, compassion, and inclusivity that have long characterized the global Church.

“His Holiness embodies a continuity of moral courage and spiritual leadership, and we believe he will build on the strong legacies of his predecessors while providing fresh perspectives to guide the Church in today’s complex world,” the CAN President added.

Archbishop Okoh affirmed CAN’s commitment to fostering Christian unity and collaboration across denominations, especially under the papacy of Pope Leo XIV. He assured the Catholic community of CAN’s continued prayers and support.

“As a body, we pray that God blesses Pope Leo XIV with divine wisdom, robust health, and the strength to shepherd the faithful with humility and conviction. May his pontificate be marked by grace, discernment, and a renewed commitment to righteousness and service to humanity.”

He concluded by expressing hope that this new chapter in the Vatican would bring about a stronger bond of fellowship among Christians worldwide and inspire renewed efforts toward peace and social justice.
