“That’s Not My Husband!” – Wife of Former Rivers Head of Service Cries Out, Raises Alarm Over Mysterious Disappearance and Suspicious Interview

Florence Nwaeke, the distraught wife of former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has sparked public concern after raising an emotional alarm over her husband’s safety, insisting the man seen in a recent viral interview was not truly him.

In a gripping media interaction on Friday night, Mrs. Nwaeke shared her growing fears and desperation following her husband’s abrupt disappearance after his recent resignation from office. She revealed that the last time she spoke with him was when he arrived in Abuja. “When he got to Abuja, he called and said he had landed. I said, ‘Thank God,’” she recalled, but what followed left her deeply unsettled.

Shortly after their call, Florence stumbled upon a video circulating online showing her husband in an interview—yet she was convinced something was amiss. “That is not my husband. That is not my husband,” she exclaimed repeatedly. Troubled by the footage, she reached out with messages asking if he was safe or being coerced. “I asked him, ‘Are you under duress? Have they kidnapped you? Why are you not talking to me?’ But I got no response. His numbers have since been unreachable.”

Overwhelmed with emotion, Florence made a desperate plea to the public and the authorities: “Oh Jesus, help me! Nigerians, help me! My husband is in serious trouble. Please help me find him. He has not replied to my messages, and I’m scared something terrible has happened.”

The controversy stems from recent explosive claims made by George Nwaeke during the said interview, in which he accused Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of orchestrating attacks on state infrastructure and backing a covert presidential ambition involving Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also alleged that Governor Fubara encouraged the bombing of the State House of Assembly in 2023 to block his impeachment.

Mrs. Nwaeke, however, insists her husband’s supposed comments were made under duress and do not reflect his true position. She appealed directly to the governor: “Governor Fubara, please, help me. My husband is in trouble. He did not resign willingly. I believe he’s being forced into this.”

In response, Governor Fubara dismissed the allegations as politically motivated fabrications. In a statement released late Friday, he claimed, “Dr. Nwaeke has clearly been compromised. His statements are part of a ploy to fulfill promises to those who either paid or pressured him to falsely implicate me.”

The governor went further to share purported chat messages between Nwaeke and his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, allegedly showing Nwaeke soliciting financial assistance—an attempt, Fubara says, to discredit the former HoS’s integrity and intentions.

As the mystery deepens, the Nigerian public watches closely, with many demanding transparency and the safe return of Mr. Nwaeke.
