DSS Links Nnamdi Kanu to String of Violent Attacks

The Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday laid serious accusations against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, alleging that he orchestrated a wave of violent attacks across the country, including high-profile assassinations and the torching of public infrastructure.

Testifying before the Federal High Court in Abuja, the DSS’s second prosecution witness—identified only by the codename “BBB” for security reasons—claimed that Kanu’s incendiary messages broadcast via the unlicensed Radio Biafra were directly responsible for inciting brutal acts of violence.

According to the witness, Kanu not only founded IPOB but also established its militant arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), both of which he used as instruments to advance his campaign for secession through what the DSS described as "calls to violence by any means necessary."

“He ordered the burning of a Lagos High Court and the destruction of government buses. He urged his supporters to behead police officers and soldiers,” BBB said under examination by the prosecution lead counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN.

The witness told the court that Kanu had, during investigations, admitted to being the voice behind several recorded Radio Biafra broadcasts submitted as evidence. In these audio recordings, he allegedly called for attacks on state institutions, encouraged the enforcement of illegal sit-at-home orders, and urged his followers to treat dissenters as enemies.

BBB further linked the IPOB leader to the gruesome killings of law enforcement officers and civilians alike. Among the victims named was a police officer who was reportedly beheaded, and Ahmed Gulak, a former political adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, who was assassinated in May 2022.

The DSS witness also attributed the horrific murder and beheading of a Nigerian Army couple, Gloria Matthew and Linus Musa, as well as the assassination of a retired judge, to directives issued by Kanu.

“He told his followers to ‘deal ruthlessly’ with anyone who flouted his sit-at-home order,” BBB added, noting that eyewitness accounts confirmed that Gulak’s attackers chanted Kanu’s name before fatally shooting him.

The revelations come amid heightened tensions and scrutiny surrounding IPOB's activities in the South-East region, as authorities continue to press charges against Kanu for terrorism and incitement.

The hearing continues as the prosecution seeks to establish a direct link between Kanu’s alleged broadcasts and the string of attacks that have left a trail of bloodshed and destruction in their wake.

Primate Ayodele Issues Prophetic Warning to Six Nigerian Governors, Cautions Against Political Turbulence and Missteps

Prominent Nigerian cleric and spiritual leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has sounded a prophetic alarm to six state governors, cautioning them about looming political and governance challenges that could shape their futures and legacies.

In a statement released by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele offered specific spiritual insights into the political trajectories of governors from Niger, Abia, and Imo States, among others, urging them to tread carefully in the days ahead to avert potentially damaging outcomes.

Niger State: Rising Tensions Ahead

According to the prophecy, the Niger State governor may face intense political headwinds and a resurgence of security threats. Primate Ayodele warned of an impending rift between the governor and powerful political stakeholders, including his deputy, which could threaten the cohesion of the administration and undermine its effectiveness.

“The governor's efforts may go unappreciated due to internal political friction and mounting insecurity. There is a need for proactive conflict resolution and strategic leadership to prevent a crisis that could derail governance,” the statement read.

Abia State: A Caution Against Tarnishing Legacy

In Abia, Governor Alex Otti was commended for his developmental strides but warned against the risk of ending his tenure on a sour note. The prophet advised him to avoid policies that may be viewed as regressive or unpopular, stressing that these could overshadow the achievements of his administration.

Ayodele also predicted a wave of political defections from Otti’s cabinet and false allegations that could cloud his reputation. He urged the governor to bolster efforts to combat insecurity and maintain open communication with the public to preserve goodwill.

“Governor Otti must remain vigilant. Any lapse in judgment or failure to address emerging threats, particularly on security, may jeopardize the public trust he has earned,” Primate Ayodele warned.

Imo State: The Battle for Succession

Turning to Imo State, the prophet directed a strong message to Governor Hope Uzodinma, emphasizing the critical importance of choosing a competent successor. According to Ayodele, failure to prioritize merit and popular support in the selection process could spell doom for the political continuity of the ruling faction.

“The governor must resist the temptation to impose a candidate out of personal loyalty. Only the emergence of a credible and widely accepted successor will secure his legacy and maintain stability in Imo State,” he stated.

Primate Ayodele’s spiritual foresight has garnered attention in the past for its accuracy, with several of his predictions unfolding as foretold. As political activities intensify across Nigeria, his latest warnings are sure to stir discussions among stakeholders and political observers.

The cleric’s message, as always, is not one of doom but a call for introspection, wisdom, and proactive leadership in navigating the complexities of governance in turbulent times.

Leeds United Fan in Coma After Tragic Fall During Promotion Celebrations

What began as a jubilant day of celebration for Leeds United has taken a heartbreaking turn, as a young supporter, Ed O’Brien, remains in a critical condition following a fall from a tree during the club’s promotion festivities.

The 23-year-old lifelong fan was among the sea of more than 150,000 supporters who flooded the streets of Leeds on Monday to revel in the club’s return to the Premier League. The celebrations were sparked by a dramatic stoppage-time goal from Tottenham Hotspur loanee Manor Solomon, which secured Leeds’ Championship title in a nail-biting finish against Plymouth.

O’Brien fell from a tree in Millennium Square amidst the mass celebrations and was immediately rushed to Leeds General Infirmary. He is currently in a coma, with his condition described as critical. His family is holding on to hope as he remains under intensive medical care, having recently undergone emergency surgery.

His mother, Stacey Barker, speaking publicly for the first time, described the incident as a tragic accident. “Ed is just a young man who made a mistake and he’s paying for it dearly,” she said through tears. “He wasn’t out of control or heavily intoxicated, and no other substances were involved. He was simply caught up in the joy of the moment.”

As the family travels daily from York to be at Ed’s bedside, they’ve been overwhelmed by both the emotional toll and the outpouring of public support. A JustGiving page set up by Ed’s friends has already raised over £10,000 to support his recovery. One of the most notable contributions came from NBA player and Leeds United investor Larry Nance Jr., who donated £2,000 along with a heartfelt message: “Thinking of you. Strength and love!”

Stacey also urged the public to show empathy. “Some of the comments online have been incredibly hurtful. We’re already living through a nightmare—please consider how your words might affect a family going through something like this.”

Ed, who had recently celebrated his 23rd birthday, is described by those close to him as a vibrant, caring young man with a tight-knit relationship with his siblings. “He’s strong, and we’re holding on to every bit of hope we have,” his mother added.

As Leeds United fans across the globe celebrate the team’s triumphant return to top-flight football, many now also send thoughts and prayers to Ed O’Brien and his family, hoping that one day he too can look back on this historic moment not with tragedy, but with triumph.

Amotekun Nabs Alleged Drug Kingpin in Ogun Market Sweep

In a coordinated operation that underscores the growing synergy between security agencies in the war against drug trafficking, operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, have apprehended a key suspect alleged to be deeply entrenched in the region’s illicit drug trade.

The suspect, 35-year-old Obi Emmanuel, was arrested in the heart of the bustling Ayetoro market in Yewa North Local Government Area on Thursday, May 8, 2025, following actionable intelligence provided by the Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

In an official statement issued by the Director of Intelligence and Investigation of Amotekun, retired Chief Superintendent of Police Shodeke Sholanke, the arrest was described as a "significant breakthrough" in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and abuse in Ogun State.

According to the statement, Emmanuel had allegedly been running a covert drug operation in the region and was linked to the distribution of hard drugs valued in the millions of Naira. He reportedly operated through a network of couriers, including a commercial driver identified only as “Alausa,” who was arrested by NDLEA operatives a day prior to Emmanuel’s apprehension.

The NDLEA had earlier intercepted an 18-seater commercial Mazda bus traveling along the Abeokuta–Ayetoro road. Upon interrogation, the driver, now in NDLEA custody, confessed that the consignment of illicit substances in the vehicle belonged to Emmanuel. This revelation triggered swift and coordinated action between the NDLEA and Amotekun, resulting in the suspect’s arrest just outside a chemist shop around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

“The arrest of Mr. Obi Emmanuel represents a major milestone in our collaborative efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in Ogun State,” the Amotekun spokesperson stated. “This operation is a clear demonstration of our commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes and safeguarding our communities.”

The agency also reaffirmed its readiness to deepen collaboration with federal law enforcement bodies, including the NDLEA, in flushing out drug syndicates and restoring public safety across the state.

As investigations continue, authorities are optimistic that more arrests and revelations will follow, paving the way for stronger deterrence and legal action against those fueling the illegal drug trade in Ogun and its environs.

Music Executive EeZeeTee Granted N20 Million Bail Over Alleged $255,000 Forex Fraud

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos has granted bail in the sum of N20 million to renowned music executive and former manager of gospel sensation Mercy Chinwo, Ezekiel Onyedikachi, popularly known as EeZeeTee, in a fresh case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC is accusing the prominent music producer of being involved in an unauthorized foreign exchange transaction totaling $255,000. In a brief ruling delivered on Friday, Justice Aneke outlined the bail conditions, mandating that EeZeeTee must provide one surety who resides within Lagos and owns a landed property equivalent in value to the bail sum.

Pending full compliance with the bail terms, the court allowed EeZeeTee to remain in the custody of his legal counsel, Mr. Ojukwu Chikaosolu, for a period not exceeding 72 hours.

The case, which has drawn attention due to EeZeeTee’s notable presence in Nigeria’s gospel music scene, stems from a 14-count charge initially filed by the EFCC. The charges, centered on alleged fraudulent conversion, were later amended and streamlined into a seven-count charge, primarily accusing the defendant of conducting foreign exchange dealings without the necessary authorization from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

During the hearing, EFCC’s prosecuting counsel, Bilikisu Buhari-Bala, informed the court that in June 2023, EeZeeTee allegedly conducted a forex transaction worth \$52,895 with a certain Mr. Oladotun Olaobaju Mureke without possessing a valid license as mandated by law.

The alleged offense violates Sections 5 and 29(1)(c) of the Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, Cap F34, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and carries penalties under Section 29(2) of the same legislation.

EeZeeTee has pleaded not guilty to all the charges leveled against him, signaling his intent to vigorously contest the allegations. The case has been adjourned until June 20, 2025, for the commencement of trial proceedings.

As the legal battle unfolds, the outcome may have broader implications not only for EeZeeTee’s career but also for ongoing discussions surrounding forex regulation enforcement and financial conduct within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

No Direct Link Between Kogi Funds and Bello’s Children’s School Fees, Witness Tells Court

In a significant turn during the ongoing N80.2 billion money laundering trial of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, a prosecution witness has testified that there is no direct evidence linking the payment of school fees for Bello’s children to either the state’s treasury or any local government account.

Nicholas Ojehomon, an Internal Auditor with the American International School, Abuja (AISA), made the statement while appearing before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday. Ojehomon is the third prosecution witness presented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its high-profile case against the former governor.

During cross-examination by Yahaya Bello’s lead counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Joseph Daudu, Ojehomon was asked to scrutinize the AISA account statement to determine the origin of payments made toward the school fees in question. In response, he confirmed that neither Yahaya Bello’s name nor the names of any of Kogi State’s local government councils appeared in the financial records provided.

When pressed further on whether other parents also make payments into the school’s account, the witness affirmed, “Yes, I confirm other parents pay into the account.”

His testimony appears to cast doubt on one of the key strands of the prosecution’s case—that public funds may have been used to settle the private educational expenses of Bello’s children. While the EFCC has alleged that large sums of state money were diverted under Bello’s administration, this witness’s statement may challenge efforts to draw a direct financial connection between the alleged embezzled funds and the school fee payments in question.

The case continues to attract national attention as it unfolds, with Yahaya Bello maintaining his innocence and the EFCC pushing to substantiate its charges with concrete evidence.

The hearing has been adjourned, with the court set to reconvene for the continuation of cross-examination and presentation of further witnesses in the coming weeks.

Zulum vs. Idris: Unpacking the Controversy Over Security Remarks in Borno

Recent discourse surrounding Nigeria’s security situation has ignited a wave of public debate, following a brief but widely dissected comment made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mallam Mohammed Idris. His statement came in response to a strong warning issued by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, over the resurgence of insurgent activities in parts of the North East—particularly in Borno State, the epicenter of Boko Haram’s decade-long assault on the region.

While tensions have risen in some quarters over the perceived implications of the minister’s remarks, a careful and objective review reveals no contradiction, rebuttal, or dismissal of the concerns raised by Governor Zulum.

Let’s begin by acknowledging the distinct, but complementary, roles both public officials play. As the Minister of Information, Idris has an institutional obligation to communicate the Tinubu administration’s perspective and defend its policies. At the same time, Governor Zulum, a man on the frontlines of insecurity, is perfectly within his rights—and responsibilities—to raise red flags when threats re-emerge in his jurisdiction. His candor reflects an understanding born of firsthand experience; he knows precisely where the pain is felt.

The minister’s comments, however, have been misinterpreted by some as an attempt to downplay Zulum’s warning. But a closer look tells a different story.

Responding to the governor’s concerns, Mallam Idris said:

“Yes, security is indeed improving in many parts of the country even if acts of violence have not been completely eradicated. Security agencies are working round the clock to ensure that the situation in some parts of Borno State and other areas is brought under control.

“The synergy we have seen in the operations of security agencies, especially in the last two years, and the massive investment in hardware and other equipment, indicates the seriousness which the Federal Government attaches to this issue. The Tinubu administration is committed to eradicating acts of banditry and terrorism across the country.

“The successes achieved by the security agencies in the last 18 months is an indication that indeed Nigeria is gradually returning to normalcy. Government calls on all, especially the subnational governments, to join hands to ensure rapid eradication of the remaining pockets of criminal elements wherever they may be.”

Nowhere in this statement did the minister discredit Zulum’s claims. Rather, he acknowledged that while national security has seen improvements, the battle is far from over. In fact, his remarks explicitly recognized ongoing challenges in Borno State and reiterated the government’s determination to resolve them. He even called for collaboration with state governments—hardly a defensive stance.

To portray the minister’s words as insensitive or dismissive is to misread a message that was, in truth, diplomatic and cooperative in tone. Idris neither denied the resurgence of insurgency nor excused the federal government from its responsibilities. Instead, he highlighted ongoing efforts, the progress made, and the need for united action.

At a time when security narratives can be easily weaponized for political mileage, it is crucial to uphold clarity and context. Both Zulum and Idris are, in their own ways, doing what their positions demand: one raising alarm based on realities on the ground, the other reinforcing public confidence by pointing to tangible progress.

The real takeaway? Security remains a shared national priority—and it will take candor, collaboration, and consistency from all levels of government to secure lasting peace in Borno and beyond.

Gates Foundation Sets Bold Deadline: \$313 Billion to Be Donated Before Full Closure in 2045

In a landmark philanthropic announcement, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has unveiled an ambitious plan to distribute an astounding \$313 billion over the next two decades, culminating in a complete wind-down of its operations by the year 2045.

As reported by "Bloomberg", the new timeline signals a significant shift for one of the world’s most powerful and influential charitable organizations. Established in 2000 by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates, the foundation has already allocated over \$100 billion toward global health, education, poverty alleviation, and scientific innovation.

With this bold commitment, the Gates Foundation is poised to more than double its lifetime giving in just 20 years—marking what could become the most aggressive philanthropic endeavor of the modern era.

Originally, the foundation’s charter stated it would operate for 20 years following Bill Gates’s death. However, in a deeply personal and forward-looking statement, Gates, now 69, announced his decision to accelerate the foundation’s mission, prioritizing impact over longevity.

“I have decided to give my money back to society much faster than I had originally planned,” Gates wrote, outlining his vision for concentrated giving aimed at solving some of the world’s most urgent challenges. “I will give away virtually all my wealth through the Gates Foundation over the next 20 years to the cause of saving and improving lives around the world.”

This announcement not only underscores Gates’s lifelong commitment to philanthropy but also reaffirms the foundation’s mission of using science, technology, and innovation to address global inequality and preventable suffering. From vaccine development and disease eradication to education access and agricultural sustainability, the Gates Foundation has played a central role in reshaping the global humanitarian landscape.

As the countdown to 2045 begins, the world will be watching closely to see how this unprecedented surge in charitable investment reshapes health, equity, and opportunity on a global scale.

Europa League Glory Beckons as Amorim Hails Mount and Mainoo for Impactful Cameo in United’s Rout Over Bilbao

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has lavished praise on midfield duo Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo following the Red Devils’ emphatic display against Athletic Bilbao, sealing their place in the Europa League final with a commanding aggregate victory.

Despite trailing briefly at Old Trafford after Mikel Jauregizar’s 31st-minute goal reignited faint hopes of a Bilbao comeback, United quickly took control of the semi-final second leg with a clinical and composed performance. Holding a 3-0 advantage from the first leg in Spain, Amorim’s men refused to rest on their laurels, responding in style to shut down any resistance.

Mount came off the bench to inspire the turnaround, netting twice in a sharp and dynamic showing, while midfield enforcer Casemiro and young striker Rasmus Højlund also found the back of the net to complete a 4-1 victory on the night—and a resounding 7-1 aggregate triumph.

Following the match, Amorim took time to highlight the contributions of Mount and Mainoo, two players he described as game-changers.

“I’m genuinely delighted for Mason Mount,” Amorim told reporters. “He’s the kind of professional who gives everything day in and day out—training hard, eating right, taking recovery seriously. When you have players like that, you want to see them succeed. Tonight, he came on and showed exactly what he’s capable of.”

The Portuguese tactician was equally impressed with young star Kobbie Mainoo, whose composure and vision in midfield continue to earn him plaudits.

“I really like Kobbie Mainoo,” Amorim added. “Sometimes, you come off the bench and completely change the rhythm and energy of a game. That’s exactly what both of them did. Their impact was immediate and vital.”

On Mount’s role, Amorim further elaborated: “He’s a tactical gift—he can operate as a central midfielder but also has the energy and intelligence to drift wide and make those dynamic runs like a winger. That versatility makes him a perfect fit for our system.”

With this result, Manchester United sets up an enticing all-English Europa League final clash against Tottenham Hotspur on May 21. The victory marks a significant milestone in Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford, as he eyes silverware in what could be the beginning of a new era of success for the club.

Akpabio Breaks Silence: I Never Considered Stepping Down Over False Allegations

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has firmly dismissed any notion that he considered stepping down from his position over the sexual harassment allegation leveled against him by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Speaking with conviction during Thursday's plenary session, Akpabio clarified that at no point did he feel pressured or obligated to relinquish his role over what he termed a “false accusation.”

The clarification came in response to a motion of confidence moved by Senate Majority Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, who praised Akpabio’s leadership and resilience in the face of controversy. Bamidele pointedly remarked that those who had anticipated Akpabio’s resignation must now be disappointed.

“By now, I’m sure you know, sir, that those who thought this Senate would have compelled you to step down are clearly mistaken,” Bamidele said, emphasizing the Senate’s collective resolve to remain focused and fair in the face of political distractions. “No matter the nature of allegations against any of us, this institution will always insist on credible evidence and will act in the public interest.”

Akpabio, in a composed but resolute tone, responded with a pointed rebuttal: “To respond to your statement about those who may have expected me to step aside — who told you I was even considering such a thing based on unfounded claims?”

He went on to draw a broader comparison to international legal injustices, particularly highlighting historical instances of racial discrimination in the U.S. judicial system. “If you look at the records in America, there are Black individuals who spent decades in prison because of false accusations rooted in prejudice. I’m not one of those who will bow out in the face of falsehoods. I will not validate a lie by stepping down.”

He further added that those hoping for his resignation should abandon that expectation. “If anyone had that idea in mind, they should discard it now. When the truth eventually emerges, those same people would turn around and admit that they were unfair to Akpabio. I will not allow that narrative to shape my legacy.”

Akpabio’s remarks have drawn attention not only for their defiant tone but also for the wider message they convey about leadership, justice, and the importance of due process. His stance suggests a firm commitment to institutional integrity, even amid political storms.

With the Senate throwing its weight behind him through a vote of confidence, it appears that Akpabio’s position remains secure, and his focus, unshaken.
