Federal Government Announces 21-Day Partial Closure of Ijora-Marine Bridge for Critical Repairs

In a move aimed at enhancing public safety and improving infrastructure integrity, the Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos, beginning 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, for an urgent 21-day repair exercise.

According to Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, the bridge—one of the city’s crucial transportation arteries—requires essential maintenance work to ensure long-term safety and functionality. The intervention will involve both full and partial closures of various sections of the bridge throughout the repair period.

The scope of the project includes lifting the bridge deck to replace worn-out bearings, as well as other structural reinforcements and maintenance procedures necessary for extending the bridge’s lifespan.

“We fully understand the inconvenience this will cause to road users, but it is a necessary step to safeguard lives and restore the structural integrity of the bridge,” Kesha stated in an official release on Tuesday. “Our ultimate goal is to provide a safer, more comfortable passage for motorists and pedestrians alike.”

To minimize disruption during the period, the Federal Ministry of Works has mapped out traffic diversion strategies, with traffic management officers deployed to help redirect commuters and maintain order.

Kesha urged Lagos residents, business owners, and daily commuters to plan ahead and cooperate fully with authorities during the period. “Advance warning signs, safety notices, and alternative route indicators will be strategically placed. We kindly appeal for patience and understanding as we work to improve this vital transport link,” she said.

The Ijora-Marine Bridge, a vital connection between the Lagos Mainland and Apapa port areas, sees heavy vehicular activity daily. This timely intervention is expected to boost road safety, prevent further deterioration, and enhance the overall efficiency of Lagos’ traffic network once completed.

“While we sincerely regret any inconvenience caused, we also thank the public for their support and cooperation as we embark on this critical rehabilitation project,” Kesha added.

After 10 Years in Darkness, Bekwarra Community in Cross River Reconnects to Power Grid in Landmark Restoration

In a remarkable turnaround for a community long shrouded in literal and metaphorical darkness, electricity has finally been restored to Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State after more than a decade without power—ushering in a wave of hope, opportunity, and economic renewal.

The announcement, made by the Executive Chairman of Bekwarra LGA, Hon. Theresa Ushie, has been met with jubilation across the region. In a heartfelt statement, Ushie credited Governor Bassey Otu for the monumental achievement, describing it as a “historic milestone” that reflects the governor’s people-first leadership and unwavering commitment to rural development.

“For over ten years, the people of Bekwarra have lived in darkness—facing not just the absence of light, but the ripple effects of halted economic activity, reduced educational advancement, and weakened community security,” Ushie said. “Today, that chapter closes. We now step into a brighter, more prosperous era.”

The return of electricity is expected to deliver transformative change. From revitalizing small and medium-scale enterprises to boosting digital connectivity, improving healthcare delivery, and strengthening local security, the ripple effects are already being felt.

Ushie emphasized that the power restoration is not merely about illuminating homes—it is about restoring dignity, reigniting hope, and empowering future generations. She also praised Governor Otu’s wider vision for Cross River State, particularly his infrastructure interventions across the Northern Senatorial District, describing them as timely and impactful.

“This project is more than wires and transformers; it is a promise fulfilled, a future secured. On behalf of our royal fathers, the youth, women, and elders of Bekwarra, I say: thank you, Your Excellency. You have etched your name in gold in the story of our people,” Ushie declared.

The Bekwarra power reconnection forms part of Governor Otu’s ambitious rural electrification and infrastructure revitalization agenda, aimed at closing the development gap between urban and rural communities across Cross River.

As electricity hums back to life across Bekwarra, a long-awaited sense of renewal spreads through its towns and villages—proof that with purposeful leadership, even the darkest chapters can give way to light.

REA, Huawei, and Partners Unite to Tackle Nigeria’s Power Gap as 80 Million Remain in Darkness

In a powerful call to action at the "Huawei Day 2025 Nigeria" event, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Mr. Abba Aliyu, revealed a staggering reality: nearly "80 million Nigerians" still live without access to electricity—a deficit that continues to hinder development, especially in underserved rural communities.

Speaking at the energy-focused event, Aliyu underscored the urgency of the situation and the strategic role REA is playing to bridge this energy divide. According to him, the agency is tasked with delivering stable electricity to 17.5 million individuals, 237,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and over 3,000 state-owned healthcare facilities across the nation.

As Nigeria intensifies its push towards universal energy access, this public-private synergy between REA, Huawei, and implementation partners like Ventura stands as a beacon of progress, offering hope for millions still living in energy poverty—and lighting the path toward a more electrified and empowered nation.

Tensions Mount as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Faces Senate President Akpabio in Court Over Alleged Contempt

In a dramatic legal showdown that has gripped national attention, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, ready to confront a contempt claim filed against her by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The high-profile hearing, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, is the latest development in an escalating feud between two prominent figures in Nigeria’s legislative arm. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) confirmed that today’s proceedings are centered on Akpabio’s allegation that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan defied a standing court order—a charge that could carry serious legal and political consequences.

However, in a twist that underscores the deepening complexity of the dispute, the court will also hear a separate contempt application filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Akpabio, the Nigerian Senate, and other involved parties. Her petition alleges that they disobeyed an earlier judicial directive barring any disciplinary actions against her.

The roots of this legal battle stretch back to a heated altercation during a Senate plenary session in February, which reportedly began over a disagreement involving seating arrangements. What started as a parliamentary tussle soon spiraled into a full-blown scandal, with Akpoti-Uduaghan later accusing the Senate President of sexual harassment during a televised interview.

Determined to protect her integrity and legislative mandate, the senator representing Kogi Central turned to the judiciary. She filed for an interim injunction at the Federal High Court, requesting that the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions be barred from launching any probe into her alleged misconduct.

Responding to her ex parte motion, the court granted a restraining order on March 4, instructing the Senate to halt any disciplinary proceedings. But in a surprising and controversial move just two days later—on March 6—the Senate defied the order and handed Akpoti-Uduaghan a suspension. The basis for the punitive action, they claimed, stemmed from a committee report that accused her of “gross misconduct.”

Today’s court session is expected to set a precedent on the limits of legislative power versus judicial authority, with both sides accusing each other of disrespecting the rule of law.

As the legal fireworks unfold, political analysts and civil society observers are closely watching how the judiciary will navigate this faceoff between two titans of Nigeria’s legislative chamber—one that pits the rising influence of a vocal female lawmaker against the institutional power of the Senate’s top brass.

The outcome may not only determine Akpoti-Uduaghan’s political future but also redefine the boundaries of accountability, gender dynamics, and legal compliance within Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Parents Storm JAMB Office, Demand Answers Over Mass Failure in 2025 UTME

A wave of frustration and concern swept across a JAMB office recently, as a group of aggrieved Nigerian parents staged a peaceful protest over what they described as “shockingly low” scores recorded by their children in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The demonstration comes in the wake of a startling report released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, which disclosed that over 70% of candidates who sat for this year’s UTME scored below 200 out of a possible 400 marks. The revelation has since triggered a nationwide conversation about the credibility and transparency of the examination process.

With placards in hand and voices filled with emotion, the parents expressed deep dissatisfaction, alleging that the unusually poor results do not reflect their children's academic preparedness or prior academic records. Many of the students, they claim, had performed admirably in mock exams and in previous UTME attempts—making the drastic drop in performance both confusing and distressing.

One parent, speaking on behalf of the group, said, “We are not here to attack JAMB, we are here for clarity. We want an independent review of the marking system. These results are inconsistent with our children’s academic history.”

Another parent echoed similar sentiments, calling for transparency: “We’re simply asking JAMB to be accountable. We owe it to our children to ensure that their futures are not jeopardized by what may be a system error or deeper issue.”

The protest adds to growing pressure on JAMB to address mounting concerns over technical glitches, grading criteria, and alleged inconsistencies in the 2025 UTME results. Education stakeholders, students, and civil society groups are also beginning to weigh in, demanding urgent reforms in the examination process to restore public trust.

While JAMB has yet to release an official response addressing the parents’ demands, the protest serves as a stark reminder of the emotional toll such outcomes take on families—and the critical role transparency plays in national examinations.

“From Uniform to Spotlight”: Cute Abiola Opens Up About Juggling Navy Duties with Content Creation

Popular actor and skit maker, Abdulgafar Abiola, better known as *Cute Abiola*, has opened up about the intense challenges he faced trying to balance his career in comedy with life as a serving officer in the Nigerian Navy.

In a candid interview with HipTV, the entertainer described his time in the military as “the most critical phase” of his life, revealing just how demanding it was to pursue his creative dreams while upholding the discipline of naval service.

“That period taught me resilience like nothing else,” he said. “I worked almost every day—Monday to Saturday—but I still found a way to consistently produce and release my skits.”

According to Abiola, juggling his responsibilities wasn’t easy, but his drive to meet personal and financial targets kept him going. Despite the rigid schedule and physical demands of naval life, he managed to release two to three videos weekly, a feat that earned him admiration from fans and peers.

“I’m a very goal-driven person,” he explained. “I set monthly targets for myself—financially and creatively. That mindset pushed me to always aim higher, no matter how tired I was.”

Before his full transition into entertainment, Abiola underwent training at the Nigerian Navy School and served diligently until November 2022. His official exit from the force, he said, came with the blessing of the Chief of Naval Staff, a moment he described as both humbling and liberating.

“I was truly overwhelmed with gratitude when I received approval to leave the Navy,” he said. “It gave me the freedom to fully chase my passion and focus on the craft that brings me joy and connects me to millions.”

Since leaving active service, Cute Abiola has become one of Nigeria’s most recognizable online comedians, using humor to entertain, educate, and sometimes even advocate on social issues.

His story is a testament to dedication, passion, and the power of staying focused—even when the odds seem stacked against you.

Tragedy in Ikorodu: 19-Year-Old Girl Dies by Suicide After JAMB Result, Receives Admission Email Moments After Death

In a heartbreaking turn of events, 19-year-old Opesusi Faith Timilehin, a young woman from Abeokuta residing in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, tragically took her own life on Monday after reportedly becoming distraught over her score in the recently released 2025 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.

Timilehin, who had aspired to study Microbiology at the university level, reportedly ingested a rodenticide known as ‘Push Out’ following what she believed was a disappointing result. She scored 190—lower than her 2024 performance, according to family sources.

Those who knew her described Timilehin as a gentle, respectful young woman with a quiet determination. She had been staying with her elder sister in Ikorodu, where the incident unfolded.

According to a close family source who spoke on condition of anonymity, Timilehin appeared visibly troubled after the results were released. Her distress took a darker turn when, at her sister’s workplace, she suddenly requested palm oil—a common emergency remedy for poisoning—complaining of severe stomach discomfort.

Initially unaware of the gravity of the situation, her sister reportedly dismissed the request until the girl collapsed, prompting panic among onlookers. Sympathisers quickly gathered, and Timilehin was rushed to Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan.

On the way to the hospital, the teenager allegedly confessed that she had consumed poison at home before heading to her sister’s office. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

In a cruel twist of fate, just 30 minutes after her passing, an email arrived in her inbox from JAMB notifying her of a "provisional admission" offer to a tertiary institution—an opportunity she had desperately hoped for.

“The timing was devastating,” a neighbour said. “To think that she died not knowing her dream had just come true... it’s a tragedy that words can’t explain.”

The news sent shockwaves through the Odogunyan community, where neighbours and local residents gathered in mourning. Many expressed anger and sadness, directing their frustrations at the examination body and the immense pressure placed on young Nigerians to achieve near-perfect academic results.

When Timilehin’s parents arrived from Abeokuta to retrieve her remains, grief quickly turned into outrage among the locals. Some residents were seen cursing the system that they believe contributed to her despair.

This tragic incident has once again ignited a national conversation about the mental health crisis among students in Nigeria, the pressure of academic expectations, and the urgent need for emotional support structures within the education system.

FG Unveils Bold Electricity Reform Plan, Targets Revamp of DisCos with North-South Pilot Scheme

In a decisive move to address Nigeria’s longstanding electricity distribution woes, the Federal Government has rolled out a strategic reform plan aimed at overhauling underperforming Distribution Companies (DisCos), starting with a pilot intervention in two key regions.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, confirmed the development on Tuesday, outlining a vision to restore efficiency, accountability, and service excellence in the nation's power distribution sector—a crucial component of Nigeria’s energy value chain.

According to the minister, the reform follows a rigorous diagnostic assessment of systemic failures plaguing DisCos, including weak governance structures, aging infrastructure, poor commercial viability, and widespread customer dissatisfaction.

To kick off the initiative, the government has partnered with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which presented a comprehensive roadmap titled “Revamping of the Distribution Sector in Nigeria.” The roadmap details actionable strategies aimed at repositioning the sector for sustainable growth and improved delivery.

As part of the pilot phase—set to run between May and August this year—one DisCo in the northern region and another in the southern region will undergo an intensive transformation process. These two companies will serve as test beds for a national-scale turnaround, combining targeted internal reforms with technical support from international partners and enhanced regulatory oversight from federal authorities.

Adelabu noted that this model is designed to be scalable and replicable across other DisCos nationwide. The pilot will focus on structural reorganization, operational efficiency, customer metering, revenue collection improvements, and the integration of modern grid technologies.

“Our objective is to demonstrate that with the right mix of reforms, investment, and oversight, even the weakest of our DisCos can be transformed into viable, customer-focused entities,” Adelabu stated.

The Minister emphasized that the reform is not just about infrastructure, but about instilling discipline, transparency, and professionalism in the power distribution ecosystem.

Energy experts have welcomed the move, describing it as a long-overdue intervention that could finally unlock the bottlenecks stifling electricity access in Nigeria. With only a fraction of generated power reaching end-users efficiently, the reform is seen as a potential game-changer in the nation's energy landscape.

If successful, the pilot scheme will mark a significant turning point in Nigeria’s decades-long struggle with erratic power supply, and set a new standard for performance within the sector.

“Keep Dancing to the Rhythm of Good Governance” — Atiku Celebrates Governor Ademola Adeleke on His 65th Birthday

In a warm and heartfelt tribute, Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, took to social media to celebrate Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, as he marked his 65th birthday in grand style.

Describing him as “the people’s governor, my brother, and friend,” Atiku’s message radiated admiration, unity, and deep personal respect for the governor, whose tenure has become synonymous with grassroots connection and spirited leadership.

The former Vice President praised Adeleke not only for his commitment to public service but also for his unwavering focus on the needs of the people—a leadership style that has earned him admiration far beyond the borders of Osun State.

“Your joyful spirit, dedication to service, and people-centered leadership remain inspiring,” Atiku wrote, in a message that quickly gained traction online.

But it was Atiku’s parting line that captured the essence of Adeleke’s persona and political style—one that blends governance with infectious charm: “Keep dancing to the rhythm of good governance.”

The phrase, which cleverly alludes to Governor Adeleke’s well-known love for dancing, served as both a personal nod and a metaphor for his dynamic, engaging approach to leadership—one that continues to resonate with everyday citizens.

Atiku’s tribute underscores the camaraderie among political allies within the opposition party and showcases the human side of leadership often overshadowed by political headlines.

Adeleke, fondly known by supporters as “the dancing senator,” has become a symbol of cheerful resilience in Nigerian politics—a man whose infectious energy complements a growing reputation for responsive governance.

As congratulatory messages continue to pour in from across the nation, Atiku’s birthday greeting stands out not just for its sincerity but for its subtle call to continue serving with joy, humility, and authenticity.

In a political climate often marked by tension and rivalry, this gesture reminds Nigerians of the power of friendship, shared values, and mutual respect among leaders. And for Governor Adeleke, it is yet another moment that proves you can lead with both your heart—and your feet.

“I Was Wrong”: Pastor Sam Adeyemi Embraces Transparency, Urges Church Leaders to Value Honesty in a Digital Age

Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Sam Adeyemi, has sparked fresh conversations on leadership integrity and transparency in the church, following a candid revelation about a mistake he once made during a sermon—and how he handled it.

In a widely circulated podcast clip that gained traction on social media on Tuesday, Adeyemi recounted a humbling moment that occurred a few years before the COVID-19 pandemic. During a teaching session, he had confidently declared that the eagle is the highest flying bird in the world—a claim he had heard repeated for decades.

However, the following day, a keen-eyed member of the congregation reached out to gently challenge the assertion.

“A church member sent a message to Pastor Nick and said, ‘I know I may not have the right to correct Pastor Sam, but he said the eagle is the highest flying bird, and that’s not accurate,’” Adeyemi recalled.

Instead of brushing off the correction, Adeyemi did what many leaders shy away from—he double-checked the facts.

“As she was talking, I pulled out my phone and searched on Google. And indeed, she was right. The eagle doesn’t even rank in the top ten highest-flying birds,” he admitted, with a tone of humility.

True to his commitment to integrity, Adeyemi returned to the pulpit and owned up to his mistake in front of the entire congregation.

“I told the church exactly what happened. I said, ‘One of you sent this message, and I verified it. I was wrong.’ And I apologised publicly.”

This moment of transparency was more than just a correction—it became a teaching point in itself. Adeyemi used the opportunity to highlight the importance of authenticity in leadership, especially within religious institutions where spiritual leaders often face unquestioned reverence.

He also emphasized the role of younger generations in reshaping how leadership is perceived in today’s information-driven world.

“Many leaders don’t realize how much things have changed,” he noted. “People used to just accept what you said. Now, they’re Googling your statements in real-time. And when they find out it’s not true, they won’t come back—they’ll say you’re a hypocrite.”

Adeyemi warned that the inability of leaders—both in the church and beyond—to acknowledge errors and evolve with the times is part of the reason many young people are disengaging from traditional institutions.

“There’s a gap between generations. If we want to bridge it, we must lead with humility, honesty, and a willingness to admit when we’re wrong,” he said.

His message has since resonated widely, with many praising his boldness in practicing what he preaches and setting an example of principled leadership.

In a world where public figures often double down rather than admit fault, Sam Adeyemi’s openness offers a powerful reminder: authenticity isn’t a weakness—it’s the true strength of modern leadership.

A wave of national admiration has followed 16-year-old Sodiq Shoyode, whose exceptional score of 360 in the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has earned him not only accolades but a life-changing scholarship.

In recognition of the teenager’s academic excellence, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Personal Assistant on Special Duties, Mr. Kamorudeen Yusuf, has stepped in to support the young prodigy’s future. According to a statement released on Monday, Mr. Yusuf has pledged to fully sponsor Sodiq’s higher education and also equip him with digital skills for the modern world.

Sodiq, who hails from Ado-Odo Local Government Area in Ogun State, quickly became a viral sensation after his UTME result surfaced online, drawing widespread praise for achieving such an impressive feat despite coming from a modest background.

Deeply moved by the boy’s brilliance and tenacity, Yusuf personally reached out to the Shoyode family to commend the young scholar and offer his support.

“As part of his commitment, the presidential aide will provide Sodiq with a laptop and enroll him in a top-tier digital training academy in Lagos, alongside full sponsorship of his university education,” the statement noted.

Speaking with quiet pride, Sodiq recounted how his goal had always been to exceed expectations in the UTME. His dream of scoring above 360 didn’t come by chance—it was a vision he had nurtured since his early days in Senior Secondary School.

“I made up my mind in SS1 that I would score 360 or more in JAMB. I worked hard, stayed focused, and I’m thankful I could make it happen,” he said, radiating joy and confidence.

Sodiq’s achievement stands as a beacon of inspiration for countless students across Nigeria, proving that discipline, ambition, and perseverance can break through even the toughest barriers. His story also highlights the transformative power of community support and the importance of recognizing and nurturing talent—regardless of socioeconomic background.

With Mr. Yusuf’s backing and a nation cheering him on, Sodiq’s journey is only just beginning, and many are already watching with anticipation to see the heights he will reach.

VeryDarkMan Breaks Silence After EFCC Release, Slams Fresh Allegations as Plot to Silence Him

Popular Nigerian social media critic and activist, Vincent Martins Otse—widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM)—has spoken out following a fresh wave of allegations leveled against him, just days after his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

VDM was released on May 7, 2025, after spending six days in detention, which began with his controversial arrest at a GTBank branch in Abuja. Now, only days after regaining his freedom, the outspoken influencer is once again in the spotlight—this time over claims of intellectual property theft.

Speaking in a video posted on his social platforms, VDM alleged that there is a coordinated attempt by certain individuals to tarnish his name and orchestrate his imprisonment. He revealed that he was summoned by the EFCC on May 12 for further questioning, during which a woman identified as Princess Barbara Odoh accused him of stealing her concept.

The accusation, he explained, relates to his self-funded project focused on combating online fraud—particularly scams perpetrated by fake vendors across social media platforms. VDM has built a reputation for championing victims of online scams and helping them recover lost funds through public exposure and direct advocacy.

“On reaching EFCC, they brought up one allegation against me that is very crazy,” he said. “This woman is alleging that my initiative to fight online scams was her idea. Madam, how? This is my work, this is what I do.”

VDM elaborated that the initiative in question was something he had long nurtured and invested in, even while he was abroad in China. He stated that he has successfully helped multiple Nigerians retrieve millions of naira lost to fraudulent online transactions and that his platform is already synonymous with exposing online scammers.

Taking a swipe at Odoh’s credibility, he added: “You say it’s your idea, but who are you? Where is your platform? What have you done? How many people have you helped? Nobody even knows you. So how can you say I stole your idea?”

Calling the claim both baseless and defamatory, VDM described the allegation as yet another episode in what he believes is a larger scheme to suppress his voice. He asserted that if anyone truly wanted to bring him down, they should at least present a weighty accusation worthy of the effort.

“If una wan hold me, make una find something very big, no be all these ones. I big pass all these things,” he declared confidently.

Despite the drama, VDM remained firm in his belief that his work matters. He expressed pride in the impact he’s made so far, particularly in helping everyday Nigerians recover from cyber fraud.

“My pride in all of this is being able to say I did something meaningful in this country before I leave this world,” he said.

On a final note, VDM vowed to take both legal and traditional action against his accuser. He announced plans to sue Odoh for defamation and made it clear that he would also pursue traditional justice.

“Madam, you go go court and you go swear juju,” he stated, signaling his readiness to clear his name by any means necessary.

As reactions pour in online, fans and critics alike are closely watching how the saga unfolds, with many questioning whether VDM is a target of political or social suppression—or simply caught in the growing complexities of influencer accountability in the digital age.

Tears on the Streets: Lagos Akara Seller Cries Out as Government Officials Seize His Livelihood

A roadside Akara vendor in Lagos has stirred widespread sympathy and outrage after a heartbreaking video surfaced online, showing him in tears as he appealed for help following the alleged confiscation of his cooking equipment by government officials.

In the now-viral clip, the visibly distraught man narrated how agents, believed to be working under the Lagos State Government, swooped in and took away the tools of his modest trade—his pots, frying pan, and gas cylinder—leaving him with nothing to continue his business.

Choking with emotion, the vendor pleaded for public support, explaining that the seized equipment was not just for making a living—it was his family's only source of sustenance. He revealed that beyond providing for his own children, he has taken on the burden of educating a young girl whose parents are unknown to him.

“This is what I use to feed myself and my family,” he said in a trembling voice. “There’s someone I’m paying school fees for—I don’t know her father or mother. It’s not just my own children I’m caring for.”

His tearful confession has since touched the hearts of many Nigerians online, sparking conversations about the plight of small-scale traders in the face of aggressive urban regulations. Critics have questioned the rationale behind such crackdowns, particularly when they target vulnerable individuals simply trying to earn an honest living.

The incident also raises broader concerns about the lack of alternative support or rehabilitation plans for informal vendors who are frequently displaced or penalized without warning or compensation.

As the video continues to circulate across social media platforms, calls are growing louder for the Lagos State Government to investigate the situation and offer restitution. Many Nigerians have urged well-meaning individuals and NGOs to come to the vendor’s aid, emphasizing the urgent need for compassion in governance.

Ebonyi Teen Fakes Own Kidnapping to Demand ₦2 Million Ransom, Says Police

In a startling case that has drawn widespread attention, a 16-year-old Senior Secondary School 2 (SS2) student in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has been accused of faking her own abduction in a bid to extort money from her family.

According to the Ebonyi State Police Command, the teenage girl, who attends a private secondary school situated along Watchman Street in the capital city, allegedly orchestrated the hoax with the help of a family friend. She reportedly contacted a relative with claims of being kidnapped and demanded a ransom of ₦2 million for her “release.”

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Ebonyi Command, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident to reporters on Monday. He stated that the girl hails from Izzi Local Government Area and was scheduled to resume school for the third term over the weekend.

During interrogation, the girl told police that she had gone out to buy second-hand clothes—popularly referred to as ‘Okirika’—when she was suddenly tapped from behind. According to her, she then lost consciousness and mysteriously woke up the following day at Ishieke Junction in Ebonyi Local Government Area.

She further claimed that she frequently had dreams about being kidnapped, and that her mother often prayed for her protection. Instead of heading home after “regaining consciousness,” she made her way to the residence of a family friend who, according to police, was unaware of the alleged hoax at first.

Using the man’s mobile phone, the teenager sent a message to her brother, falsely claiming she had been kidnapped and demanding a ₦2 million ransom. When her brother asked to speak with the supposed abductors and requested their location, she refused to cooperate and subsequently blocked his number.

However, she later unblocked him and forwarded an account number—belonging to the family friend—where the ransom money was to be paid. That move triggered suspicion, prompting law enforcement officers to swing into action.

Through a swift digital trace of the phone used for the messages, police tracked the location and raided the residence. The girl and everyone involved in the plan were arrested during the operation.

Police have since reunited the student with her family, but the matter remains under active investigation as authorities determine the full extent of involvement of all parties.

PPRO Ukandu noted that the incident serves as a sobering reminder of the growing need for awareness around the misuse of digital tools and the lengths some individuals may go for financial gain.

“I Was Almost Robbed!” – Actor Adeniyi Johnson Urges Lagos Security Agencies to Step Up After Terrifying Encounter

Popular Nollywood actor Adeniyi Johnson has issued a passionate appeal to security authorities in Lagos State following a harrowing robbery attempt that nearly left him as another victim of the city’s growing crime concerns.

In a candid Instagram post shared on Sunday, the actor recounted the chilling moment he was attacked by hoodlums shortly after returning to Nigeria. He didn’t hold back in his criticism of the state’s security structure, particularly targeting the inefficiency of routine police checkpoints that seem more interested in casual greetings and tips than actual protection.

“Lagos needs better security than those ‘stop and search’ checkpoints where officers ask, ‘Oga how weekend?’ and ‘Anything for us?’” Johnson lamented.

Describing the incident in vivid detail, he revealed how it all happened in the blink of an eye.

“I had just gotten back to my country—yes, my own country—and the welcome committee was a group of robbers. Thank God for alertness and quick thinking, or this would’ve ended very differently,” he wrote.

According to Johnson, the terrifying encounter took place in the Alapere area, shortly after descending from the Third Mainland Bridge on the stretch between Secretariat and Magodo.

“It happened in just 15 seconds. I heard a loud bang on my windshield, and before I knew it, three thugs were swarming my car. This is not the first time either—this is the second time I’ve had such an experience. Lagos is becoming more dangerous by the day, and we need real action.”

The actor, visibly shaken but grateful to have escaped unharmed, also shared a video showing the damage inflicted on his vehicle during the attack. The footage, which quickly made the rounds online, sparked concern among fans and fellow actors, with many calling for improved surveillance and rapid response systems across Lagos.

In the same post, Johnson took a moment to show support for his colleagues who received accolades at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA), proving that even amidst personal trauma, he remained connected to the larger Nollywood family.

His message, while emotional, has amplified growing public discourse about urban safety and the need for Nigeria’s security apparatus to move beyond superficial routines and deliver true protection to its citizens.

Ben Murray-Bruce Endorses Davido for Political Office, Says Singer Has What It Takes to Govern Osun State

Business mogul, media icon, and former Nigerian senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has stirred up fresh political buzz with a bold endorsement of Afrobeat sensation David Adeleke—popularly known as Davido—as a potential future governor.

In a video posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, the “Common Sense” advocate didn’t hold back in praising Davido’s capacity to rise beyond the stage lights and studio booths to assume political leadership in Nigeria.

Describing the award-winning artist as far more than a chart-topping entertainer, Bruce hailed Davido as one of Nigeria’s most influential cultural ambassadors with a sharp mind and solid political awareness beneath the glamour of his music career.

“David Adeleke, the global phenomenon better known as Davido, is undeniably one of Nigeria’s greatest exports. But beyond the hit songs and sold-out concerts lies a side many overlook—he is, in his own words, a political animal. He possesses strong ideological beliefs and an evident passion for public affairs,” Bruce stated.

The senator, known for his forward-thinking commentaries on youth involvement in governance, said Davido’s political leanings and affiliations shouldn’t come as a surprise given his family background.

“Politics is in his bloodline. The Adeleke dynasty is steeped in political legacy—from his father to his uncle, the current governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke. With such a foundation and if mentored strategically, Davido could be groomed into a formidable political force.”

He went on to express confidence in Davido’s popularity and connection with the grassroots, citing them as major assets in a potential gubernatorial run.

“Considering his widespread appeal and his ability to mobilize millions, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Davido contest and clinch the governorship seat of Osun State someday. If he runs, I predict he will win.”

Ben Bruce’s comments have since sparked online discussions, with many weighing in on the possibility of Davido transitioning from pop stardom to political stardom.

Japheth Omojuwa Welcomes First Child with Wife, Pens Heartfelt Tribute to the Miracle of Life

Celebrated Nigerian media personality and political commentator, Japheth Omojuwa, has announced the arrival of his first child—a moment he describes as nothing short of divine.

Omojuwa, who married his wife in a beautiful ceremony in September 2022, took to social media early Monday morning to share the heartwarming news, alongside a series of tender photos capturing the new parents cradling their bundle of joy.

Overflowing with emotion and wonder, the proud new dad revealed how the birth of his baby—fondly referred to as "Baby J"—left him in awe, reaffirming his faith in the existence of God.

“Baby J is here. Our joy is full. My dimples are happy—from the first slide to the last. I am still in awe,” he wrote.

Reflecting on the overwhelming moment he first locked eyes with his newborn, Omojuwa described an experience that was both surreal and spiritual.

“I looked into a face and eyes that looked just like mine. It began with soft, explorative blinks—then came the fullness of life in small, soulful eyes already bearing depth and purpose.”

In a poetic stream of thoughts, Omojuwa shared that this sacred moment didn’t just remind him of his faith—it confirmed it.

“I used to believe in God. But that moment wasn’t a reminder; it was a profound affirmation. There is surely a God.”

He went on to describe the arrival of his child as a divine gift—an answer from above—and emphasized that while science and effort played their part, the miracle of life could only be attributed to the Creator.

“This is the Almighty’s answer. His image, His spirit—seen through my eyes, with my very own eyes. I was awestruck by the miracle of creation. It couldn’t have been just us. For a moment, I even wondered if it was immaculate conception. But Baby J isn’t Jesus. We made the decision, we put in the work, and the Lord blessed us. Now, Baby J is here. Glory to God, amen!”

As congratulations continue to pour in across social media, fans and followers are celebrating with the couple—marking this new chapter in their lives with love, prayers, and well-wishes.

Mercy Johnson’s Slimmer Look Sparks Online Buzz, Angela Okorie Fires Allegations

Award-winning Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson Okojie has once again found herself at the center of online conversations, following the release of a video that quickly went viral. The actress, who is widely admired for her talent and longevity in the Nigerian film industry, was seen dancing joyfully to the trending Igbo gospel track "Obata", proudly showing off her noticeably slimmer physique.

In the video originally shared on TikTok and reposted by producer Stanley Ontop on Instagram, Mercy radiated youthful energy as she moved gracefully to the rhythm of the song. Dressed in a fitted ensemble that highlighted her new frame, she attributed her transformation to a slimming tea she has been promoting for months.

Stanley’s caption read in part:

"Nollywood legendary actress Mercy Johnson Okojie showing off her new body as she sings the Igbo trending music ‘Obata’... Mercy is looking absolutely stunning and young."

But while many fans celebrated her glow-up and praised her beauty, not everyone was impressed. Fellow actress Angela Okorie took a sharp and unexpected turn in the comments, lashing out with strong allegations that went beyond mere celebrity rivalry.

In a heated remark laced with religious references and unverified claims, Angela wrote:

"Blood-sucking demon no see blood suck again, e say na slimming tea. Except there’s no God. MJ, go and beg people you’ve hurt and whose homes you’ve destroyed. Gospel songs won’t save you—your heart is dark!"

Her words sent shockwaves through the comment section, sparking fierce debate among followers of both actresses. While some questioned the intent behind Angela’s outburst, others urged Mercy to respond or clarify. Mercy, however, has remained silent—choosing instead to keep promoting her brand and embracing her new look with poise.

Over recent weeks, fans have noted dramatic changes in the actress’s appearance—commenting on her more defined curves, slimmer silhouette, and elongated neck. These changes have raised eyebrows, with opinions split between genuine admiration and suspicion of cosmetic enhancement or deeper personal transformation.

Regardless of the controversy, Mercy Johnson continues to beam with confidence, seemingly unfazed by criticism. Her ongoing promotion of the slimming product line suggests that she’s fully embracing the journey—both physical and personal.

As the debate continues to swirl online, one thing remains clear: Mercy Johnson's presence—whether on-screen or off—still commands attention, stirring conversations that reflect not just celebrity culture, but deeper societal expectations around beauty, faith, and authenticity.
