JAMB Launches In-Depth Probe into 2025 UTME Amid Surge of Candidate Complaints

Amid a wave of concerns trailing the recently released 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the nature and origin of the complaints. The Board aims to determine whether technical issues may have compromised aspects of the examination process.

In a statement issued on Monday by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB acknowledged what it described as an “unusually high volume of complaints” received from certain regions across the country following the release of the results last Friday. These complaints, according to the Board, are being taken seriously and are undergoing detailed scrutiny.

To ensure a thorough and transparent review, JAMB has assembled a panel of experts comprising members of the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, seasoned educational assessors, heads of tertiary institutions serving as Chief External Examiners, vice chancellors, and specialists from the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa.

“In light of the concerns raised, the Board is fast-tracking its annual post-examination audit—a rigorous review process traditionally conducted months after the UTME,” the statement read. “This year, we are initiating this review earlier than scheduled to address the feedback with the urgency it deserves.”

The post-mortem audit will assess every phase of the UTME, including registration procedures, conduct of the examination, and the integrity of the result processing system. JAMB reiterated its commitment to ensuring fairness and accuracy, especially in instances where candidates may have faced technical disruptions during the exam.

“The Board ensures that every candidate gets a fair chance to write the exam. If any technical challenges are confirmed, JAMB reschedules affected candidates immediately. This commitment remains unchanged,” the statement affirmed.

While the Board noted that the bulk of complaints originated from “a few specific states,” it assured the public that no valid concern would be dismissed. If any technical faults are discovered during the review, JAMB promised that prompt and appropriate remedial actions would be taken—including possible re-evaluation or rescheduling for those impacted.

As stakeholders and candidates await further updates, JAMB’s proactive response reflects its commitment to upholding transparency, credibility, and the sanctity of the national examination process.

Dangote Refinery Further Slashes Petrol Price to N825/Litre Amid Rising Market Competition

In a strategic move aimed at strengthening its foothold in Nigeria’s domestic fuel market, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced another reduction in the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol.

The refinery, which boasts a massive refining capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has dropped the ex-depot price of petrol from N835 to N825 per litre—marking a continued trend of price cuts within a relatively short period. Just last month, the refinery made headlines by trimming the price from N865 to N835 per litre, signaling a shift in pricing dynamics within the downstream sector.

Industry insiders view the latest cut as a calculated response to intensifying market competition, with Dangote Refinery positioning itself as both a price leader and customer-focused brand in Nigeria’s oil and gas space. The refinery is believed to be leveraging economies of scale and domestic refining advantages to drive down costs and offer more attractive pricing to marketers and end consumers.

Sources close to the company say the new adjustment is not only geared toward delivering better value to customers but also reflects the refinery’s commitment to transforming the local energy landscape by reducing reliance on fuel imports and stabilizing prices in the long run.

Market analysts predict that the price revision may prompt reactions from other fuel suppliers, potentially leading to a ripple effect that could ease fuel cost pressures for Nigerians.

As the refinery ramps up operations and distribution networks, observers say Dangote’s pricing strategy could redefine the future of fuel affordability and supply sustainability in Nigeria.

Iniubong Umoren’s Family, Prosecutors Debunk Organ Harvesting Claims, Demand Justice Against Misinformation

The family of the late Iniubong Umoren, along with legal representatives from both the prosecution and defense, has firmly dismissed recent social media allegations suggesting that her organs were harvested, calling such claims false, unfounded, and a cruel distortion of the truth.

At a press briefing held in Akwa Ibom State, representatives from the Umoren family, the state’s Ministry of Justice, and legal counsel involved in the high-profile murder trial of UduakAbasi Akpan came together to address and condemn the viral narrative, which has recently implicated Senate President Godswill Akpabio in a baseless organ trafficking conspiracy.

Speaking with visible emotion, Iniubong’s elder sister, Ifiok Umoren, recounted the heartbreaking timeline that led to her sister’s tragic death. She recalled how Iniubong had informed her of a job interview before she went missing in April 2021 and how the family frantically searched for her when she failed to return home.

She clarified that the young graduate's remains were examined in the presence of both the police and family members before her burial. "Before she was buried, the police took her body to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for an autopsy," Ifiok stated. "Two policemen and I were there. I saw with my own eyes—every organ in her body was intact. She was laid to rest on May 18, 2021."

Her voice heavy with grief and disbelief, Ifiok condemned those spreading the rumors, questioning the motives behind such cruel fabrications. "How can anyone twist this tragedy into a lie about organ harvesting? It is painful enough to lose a loved one—we shouldn’t have to relive that pain through malicious falsehoods," she said.

Supporting the family’s statement, Mr. Friday Itim, the Director of Public Prosecution for Akwa Ibom State, reiterated that the murder trial of UduakAbasi Akpan was thorough, transparent, and devoid of any mention of organ removal. He detailed how Akpan lured Iniubong under the pretense of a job interview, murdered her after she resisted unprotected sex, and buried her in a shallow grave before fleeing to Calabar, where he was later apprehended.

The prosecution, Itim emphasized, presented ten witnesses and a strong body of evidence that led to Akpan’s conviction and eventual sentencing to death by hanging on August 4, 2022.

"It is outrageous and damaging to suggest that this case had anything to do with organ harvesting or any link to the Senate President. The facts are clear, the evidence is documented, and justice has been served," Itim stated. He further called for the prosecution of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who allegedly promoted the misinformation, for spreading false and defamatory content.

Akpan’s defense counsel, Samson Adula, also lent his voice to the chorus of denials. “Throughout the duration of the trial, there was never any indication or evidence suggesting that the deceased was a victim of organ trafficking,” he asserted. “These are mere social media speculations with no grounding in truth or court records.”

Iniubong Umoren, a promising 26-year-old Philosophy graduate from the University of Uyo, was remembered by family and friends as intelligent, ambitious, and kind-hearted. Her life was tragically cut short on April 29, 2021, in a crime that sent shockwaves across the nation. Her killer, UduakAbasi Akpan, was brought to justice after months of public outcry and legal proceedings.

The press briefing concluded with a plea from the family and state officials to the public: to respect the memory of the deceased by refraining from spreading unfounded narratives and to allow the dignity of justice and truth to prevail.

Sowore Challenges Peter Obi's Opposition Credentials: "He’s Not Mobilizing Against the System"

Prominent activist, publisher, and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has downplayed claims that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, is currently the leading voice of opposition in Nigeria.

Speaking during a recent appearance on "Inside Sources", a political affairs programme on Channels Television, Sowore expressed strong reservations about the perception of Obi as a formidable opposition figure, despite his impressive electoral performance in the 2023 polls.

Peter Obi, who secured over six million votes and finished third in the tightly contested presidential race, has been widely regarded in some political circles as a rallying figure for dissent against the current administration. However, Sowore strongly disagrees with this portrayal.

"I honestly don’t understand why anyone would refer to Peter Obi as part of the opposition," Sowore remarked. "He has not opposed any of the major policies of this government. He didn’t mobilize his supporters to challenge the outcome of the election he claims was rigged. There was no street-level resistance, no protest—just silence."

Sowore, who is known for his activist background and vocal stance against government policies he considers anti-people, argued that true opposition in a democratic system requires more than press statements and social media posts. According to him, it demands consistent mobilisation, public resistance, and a willingness to confront injustice head-on.

He pointed specifically to the Bola Tinubu administration’s controversial decision to remove fuel subsidies, a move that triggered widespread economic hardship. "Where was Peter Obi when fuel prices skyrocketed? Where was the mass mobilisation? Where was the outcry? Real opposition demands action, not passivity," Sowore stated.

The AAC leader emphasized that opposition leadership is not merely about past election figures or popularity, but about the courage to challenge power through tangible resistance, especially when national policies threaten the well-being of ordinary citizens.

In Sowore’s view, Peter Obi's political approach has lacked the boldness and confrontational energy needed to disrupt the status quo. “He doesn’t represent an ideological counter to the system. His politics is still within the comfort zone of establishment thinking,” he added.

While Sowore's remarks have sparked renewed debate about the state of Nigeria’s opposition politics, they also highlight a broader question: What does it truly mean to lead an opposition movement in a nation grappling with political inertia, economic hardship, and social unrest?

ASUU Elects Professor Chris Piwuna as New National President at Landmark Congress in Benin

In a pivotal leadership transition, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has elected Professor Chris Piwuna as its new national president. The announcement was made at the Union’s 23rd National Delegates Congress held in Benin City on Sunday, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the ongoing struggle for academic integrity and improved university education in Nigeria.

Professor Piwuna, a seasoned academic and respected consultant psychiatrist, currently serves at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital. He also holds the position of Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Jos, a role that has further solidified his reputation as a bridge between academic leadership and student engagement.

He succeeds Professor Victor Osodeke, a Professor of Soil Science from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State. Osodeke’s tenure was marked by vigorous advocacy, prolonged industrial actions, and a relentless push for better funding and autonomy in Nigerian public universities.

Professor Piwuna emerged victorious in a keenly contested election, defeating Professor Adamu Babayo of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. Delegates from various university branches converged at the congress, which is held every three years, to elect new officers and deliberate on the future direction of the union.

Observers note that the choice of Piwuna signals a potential shift in tone and strategy for ASUU. Known for his calm yet firm leadership style and strong student-centered philosophy, Piwuna brings both medical expertise and administrative experience to the national stage.

As the new president, he is expected to steer the union through ongoing negotiations with the federal government, address perennial issues such as underfunding, delayed salaries, and university autonomy, and possibly recalibrate ASUU’s approach to industrial actions.

His election has already generated buzz among academic circles, with many expressing optimism that his background in mental health may influence a more empathetic and reform-focused era for Nigeria’s embattled university system.

With the weight of expectation now on his shoulders, all eyes will be on Professor Piwuna as he steps into one of the most demanding leadership roles in Nigeria’s academic landscape.

"I Found Healing at Bethel": Governor Umo Eno Recounts Spiritual Journey at Apostolic Church Homecoming

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, stirred deep emotion and reflection on Sunday as he returned to his spiritual roots at The Apostolic Church, Nigeria, Maboju Assembly in Lagos—a place he credited with his miraculous healing from chronic illness nearly five decades ago.

Speaking during a heartfelt Homecoming and Thanksgiving service, Governor Eno shared the moving story of how, as a young boy in 1975, he was plagued by persistent ill-health until his mother, driven by desperation and faith, brought him to a revival meeting at the church.

"By the grace of God, I received my healing during that revival," Eno declared, recalling the transformative encounter with conviction. “From then on, my mother and I became regular worshippers here. This community became our home. I schooled here, lived here—everyone in this neighborhood knew us.”

The event, attended by high-ranking government officials, business leaders, and longtime friends, was as much a celebration of faith as it was a powerful reminder of destiny, humility, and spiritual grounding. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was represented by Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, while Akwa Ibom’s Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, also stood by Eno during the service.

The Apostolic Church leadership, in turn, testified to Eno’s long-standing commitment to service within the church. Before his relocation to Akwa Ibom in 1995, the governor was actively involved in various capacities, laying a spiritual foundation that many believe still guides his leadership today.

Choking with emotion, Governor Eno likened his return to the biblical story of Jacob’s return to Bethel—a place of divine encounter and covenant renewal. He referenced Genesis 35, explaining that the homecoming was not merely ceremonial, but a deeply spiritual act of obedience and gratitude.

“The Spirit of the Lord laid it strongly on my heart to return to Bethel,” he said. “If you forget the blessings of yesterday, you risk forfeiting the blessings of tomorrow. This journey back is a recognition of where it all began—a sacred place that marked the turning point in my life.”

The governor’s testimony resonated deeply with the congregation, many of whom were visibly moved by his humility and faithfulness. His story, a powerful blend of personal healing, spiritual calling, and public service, offered an inspiring message of gratitude and divine purpose.

For Eno, the visit to Maboju Assembly was not just a return to a physical location—it was a rekindling of faith, a spiritual reset, and a public acknowledgment that in both personal life and leadership, it pays to remember the altar where your journey began.

Fubara Hints at Stepping Away from Rivers Governorship: "My Spirit Left That Office Long Ago"

Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has sparked fresh conversations around the political turmoil in the state after hinting that he may no longer be interested in returning to his position. Speaking candidly at a service of songs in Port Harcourt on Sunday, held in honour of the late elder statesman Edwin Clark, Fubara suggested that his heart has long departed from the seat of power.

In a video that has since circulated widely on social media, the embattled governor seemed to unburden himself of the pressures and expectations surrounding his political fate. "Can’t you see how much better I look?" he said with a calm demeanor. "Do you think I’m still interested in that seat? My spirit has already left that place long ago."

Fubara, who has remained largely reserved since his suspension, added pointedly, “I want everyone to stay focused. There are some battles in life that are simply not worth fighting.”

His remarks come against the backdrop of a fierce political crisis in Rivers State, ignited by a prolonged power struggle with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Their rift, which began as a quiet disagreement, escalated into a full-blown political standoff that destabilized the state government.

On March 18, in an unprecedented move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing the growing tension and dysfunction within the political landscape. As part of the federal intervention, Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all state lawmakers were suspended from their respective offices.

To stabilize governance in the state, the President appointed retired naval chief Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator of Rivers. This marked a dramatic turn in the state's political narrative, effectively sidelining all elected officials.

Fubara’s latest comments have fueled speculation that he may be preparing to bow out gracefully from the political scene, rather than re-engage in a power struggle he now deems unnecessary. For many observers, his words signal a man who has found peace away from the turbulence of high-stakes governance.

As Rivers State adjusts to its new reality under federal oversight, the question remains: Is Fubara’s political journey over, or is this simply a calm before a different kind of storm?

Chelsea Fans Fume as Nicolas Jackson Sees Red in Newcastle Defeat: “Osimhen or Nothing Next Season!”

Chelsea’s hopes for a top-four finish suffered a major blow on Saturday as striker Nicolas Jackson was shown a red card during their high-stakes Premier League clash against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

The Senegalese forward was initially booked in the 35th minute after a clumsy elbow on Newcastle’s Sven Botman, but the decision was swiftly escalated to a red card following a VAR review by referee John Brooks. The moment only added salt to the Blues’ wounds, as they were already trailing 1-0 following a second-minute strike from Sandro Tonali.

Jackson’s dismissal sent shockwaves through Chelsea’s fanbase—many of whom turned to social media to vent their frustration and demand immediate action from the club’s management. What made matters worse was the damning statistic: Jackson has now accumulated more Premier League cards (4) this season than direct goal contributions (3). The red card also means he’ll be suspended for the remainder of the campaign.

One furious supporter took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Jackson has effectively handed us a loss and jeopardized our Champions League dreams. This debacle should be the last straw—his Chelsea career should end here.”

Echoing the sentiment, another fan added, “This was the game to step up, to deliver—yet Jackson chooses violence over value. We need a complete overhaul up front. Osimhen or nobody next season!”

The calls for Victor Osimhen, the prolific Nigerian striker currently at Napoli, intensified online. “Osimhen is a must-buy. Jackson isn’t fit for Chelsea’s ambitions. End of story,” another supporter declared.

With tensions rising and Champions League qualification hanging in the balance, pressure is now mounting on Chelsea to reevaluate their attacking options and possibly make bold moves in the upcoming summer transfer window.
