Following the events that transpired when controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, was named the "best dressed female" at the premiere of actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao's film "Ajakaju (Beast of Both Worlds)" last Sunday, the Internet was practically set on fire this week.
Actress Dayo Amusa criticized fellow actor Femi Adebayo for announcing the choice to award Bobrisky, which sparked a flurry of responses.
Amusa argued that Bobrisky should not receive the award, which supposedly came with a N1 million cash reward, because it was a disrespect to the women who attended the premiere. She said the organizers ought to have included a category for cross-dressers if they thought they should have been recognized with an award.
Aduke, Adebayo's wife, was having none of it, accusing Amusa of being a hypocrite and inciting further hostility. She said Amusa should have complained to the event organizers instead of her husband, who was simply asked to announce the winner, if she was unhappy with the award.
Adebayo claimed that Amusa was not content with his achievements. "You can never have peace of mind because I'm just getting started," he continued. You ought to focus your energies on advancing your career.In addition, Bobrisky filed a peace suit, advising detractors to concentrate on the judges' ruling rather than vilifying Femi Adebayo.Amusa was accused by some supporters of unfairly singled out Adebayo in response to the call-out.
According to Kiki Sanchex, "She is transgender and now identifies as a woman." Although I may not agree with her, Bobrisky went there disguised like a lady and succeeded in winning. I don't see any issues with this.
But Lady Que, a different fan, expressed Amusa's viewpoint as well. "A man winning the best dressed female competition is disrespectful to women who attended the event," the author said.
But when controversial singer Portable criticized the choice to declare Bobrisky the victor, the tension reached a new level. Portable asked Bobrisky to stop identifying to himself as a woman on his Instagram feed. As a result, the two exchanged profanities over multiple voice notes. Bobrisky, as was to be expected, took Portable's criticism seriously and cursed the singer and his family.
As hostilities grew, Honey Berry, one of Portable's baby moms, sent Bobrisky a strong warning, threatening to hold him responsible if his curses caused any harm to her child.
Not satisfied, Portable released a "diss" song called "Yansh like Fufu," which is becoming more and more popular on the internet.
Eniola Ajao, who seemed shocked by the turn of events, publicly apologized to those who were hurt by Bobrisky's selection as the award winner. It was nothing more than a PR stunt, she continued. "I write to you today with a heavy heart, filled with regret and remorse over the events that unfolded at my movie premiere," she said in a statement she released. I come before you all now, accepting complete responsibility for the anguish and upheaval that the circumstances surrounding the "Ajakaju" premiere created, and humbly pleading for your forgiveness.
Ajao then took the prize away from Bobrisky and announced Iyabo Ojo, an actress, and Raheem Halimah, also known as Papaya Ex, a social media personality, as the new winners. They were each given a N1 million cash present.
"Dayo you had no chance of winning even if Bob (risky) did not win," commented Omowunmi.
